Forgiven Child of God Motorcycle Ministry is challenging each Motorcycle Club, Motorcycle Ministry and Riding Club to hold a fundraiser to support the United Methodist Children’s Home through the Bikers’ Ride-a-thon on April 14, 2007.
Motorcycle groups who want to participate are being asked to supply at least one or more representatives to ride into Selma, AL, and personally deliver their group’s donation.
Billed as “Carin’ & Sharin’ for God’s Children”, the event’s proceeds will benefit the programs of the Children’s Home, which serves children and families from North Alabama to the Florida panhandle. While there, riders will be invited to participate in other activities for the kids and other guests.
The day will include a 2 to 3 hour ride which will be a poker run. “A Poker Run is just what it says,” said Rev. Phil Hullar, coordinator of the Ride-a-thon. Hullar said that riders will meet at the Children’s Village, the Children’s Home’s main campus in Selma, to sign in and draw the first card of what will be a poker hand.
There will be four other stops at local merchants and restaurants throughout Selma. At each stop the rider draws another card. The run will end up back at the Village. The riders’ poker hands will be examined and a winner chosen.
Sign-in for the poker run begins at 10:00 AM. Cost is $20 per hand with the last bike out at 11:30. Half of the money collected goes to the Children’s Home and half to the winning rider. “Most donate their winnings back to the charity, as it is all for fun,” said Hullar.
There is no rain date for this event. “Rain or shine the run will go on as scheduled,” said Hullar.
In connection with the ride, there will be a raffle to win a 2007 Kawasaki Bayou 250 all-terrain vehicle. Those interested should see a member of the Wiregrass Chapter of Forgiven Child of God to buy a raffle ticket.
