| Serving All God’s Children - Former Board Chair and current Board member, Rev. Doreen Duley, recently became the president of the Pediatric Chaplain’s Network. |
Rev. Doreen Duley, current member and former Chair of the United Methodist Children’s Home Board of Directors, has been elected to a two-year term as president of the Pediatric Chaplains Network (PCN). Duley is also the director of pastoral care at Children’s Hospital.
The PCN is a national association of pediatric chaplains who gather to share ideas and enhance their ministries for the purpose of improving the field of pediatric medicine.
As president, Duley will help the PCN develop an annual Pediatric Chaplains Institute funded by a grant from the Chicago-based Wilbert Foundation to provide education and training for chaplains working in a pediatric setting.
“Most chaplains have been trained to work with adults,” Duley said. “Our hope is to provide them with training that meets the special needs of pediatric patients and their families.”
The Children’s Hospital of Alabama has five full-time pediatric chaplains providing pastoral care and the Bew White Interfaith Chapel, adjacent to the hospital’s main lobby, for prayer and religious services.

Though originally scheduled for May 26, the United Methodist Men’s Softball Teams on the Eastern Shore of Mobile Bay will host the Seventh Annual United Methodist Charity Men’s Slow Pitch Softball Tournament on Saturday, June 9, 2007. Proceeds from the tournament will benefit the United Methodist Children’s Home.
As in previous years, the tournament will take place at the Al Trione Sports Complex in Daphne, Alabama, a few miles south of Interstate 10 across the Mobile Bay from Mobile.
“We were having some trouble getting enough teams to sign up for the holiday weekend, so we postponed the date,” said Tony Caminiti who coordinates the event. It looks like this was the right decision. Teams have already started signing up for the new date.
Caminiti also said that it is not always easy to identify the churches with softball teams. “We appreciate any help we can get from church members to forward this information to the team managers,” he said. “We had a lot of fun last year, played some good softball and enjoyed great fellowship with our Methodist brothers.”
Those interested can call Caminiti at 251-928-0529 or 251-591-8007 for more information or to reserve a spot in the tournament.
The double-elimination tournament is ASA sanctioned with a registration fee of $300 per team. Registration deadline is June 6. Checks should be made out to “Fairhope Church Softball” and mailed to Tony Caminiti, 108 Volanta Ave., Fairhope, AL 36532.
