Matthew was nine years old when he came into our care along with several siblings and cousins. He was next to the youngest…little, skinny, quiet and unsure.
After his mother’s death, the extended family was not able to care for them. So the Children’s Home became their home. They arrived late one Friday evening with only the clothes on their backs…and they had not eaten all day. We opened the kitchen and fed them and opened our hearts and loved them.
That was four years ago.
In June we held our annual Awards Day program, where we recognized the remarkable achievements of the children living in our group homes.
During this celebration, Matthew was recognized for having straight A’s and for being invited to attend the Duke University Talent Identification Program for gifted children. WOW!
We don’t know where God will lead Matthew, but we do know your generosity has helped save his life so that he may live it more abundantly. God uses caring people like you to make His miracles happen … and all you need to do is answer His call.
Gifts from people like you fed Matthew and his family that first night, clothed them and allowed them to sleep on clean sheets in warm beds. These gifts continue to give them the tools, and the loving, Christian guidance they need to reach their full potential in school … and in life.
School will be starting soon, and we need your help to get all the children physically and mentally prepared, as well as spiritually motivated. Please say a special prayer right now for Matthew and all of our children as they journey through life to find their God-given talents, and as they discover the everyday miracles God is performing in their lives … thanks to you.

Today we had about 30 youth and their leaders come from Gulf Breeze UMC to help do a yard work day with us. Our front yard and flower gardens look great!
We all worked hard, and then they ate a hot dog lunch with us, and played loads of games together for the rest of the day. This is the 2nd year they came to do this with us, and it wound up being very successful last year and this year! It was hot, but that didn’t stop the outside basketball games!
Also, last Saturday a small group from the Xerox Corporation came and provided special hair appts. for our girls and a wonderful catered barbecue lunch for everyone, too.
We have celebrated a lot of birthdays this summer, and Andrea Porch and her volunteers from St. Paul UMC in Navarre provide really wonderful birthday cakes and gifts for each resident’s birthday.
We also have enjoyed summer parties and extra birthday celebrations with the “Motorcycle church people” from Woodbine UMC in Pace. They have all been awesome!
The girls and house moms will be spending a weekend at a condo donated by Orange Beach UMC as a special outing before school starts on the 20th! They’ll be visiting at the 10:30 AM service at Orange Beach UMC on Sunday before heading back to the Milton group home.
Just thought I’d let you know! :)
